- Complete the Meeting Aesclepius mp3 (located in the Doc Sharing area). Describe your meditative practices for the week and discuss the experience. Explain how mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or spiritual wellness. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life to foster greater health and wellness?
When doing the Meeting Aesclepius I did not feel anything new, or eye opening and I found it hard to find a mentor but after a bit I was able to pull a figure from a book I was reading who was like a mentor to some of the others in the book, this was nice because I felt I was really trying.
I will say that I did feel that I did some medition this week, yet it was while I was running on my treadmill. For me running on the treadmill is something that I do because it is easy to day at 10 pm when everyone else in my house is sleeping and I need a brake from homework. When I am on the treadmill I am able to just run, not watch out for anythign or anyone, just run. I was able to reflect on some issues that came up in the day as well as try to resolve some interconflict I was having about a sistuation my firend is in, and how I was going to handle the situstion when it comes up. This was wonderful for me, I had almost forgotten how much this is helpful. I also was able to read some non-school books this week, granted I lost a lot of sleep because if it but it was so nice to escape my life for a little bit and read about someone else's trials even if it wasn ot real. Overall I think I did well this week, and looking forward to the weeks ahead.
- Describe the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" (p.477). How does this apply to the health and wellness professional? Do you have an obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Why or why not? How can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life?
I feel a huge obligation to my clients, not only because I am a proffessional but because I truly enjoy each and everyone of them. I think that if I do not develop than what good am I to my clients, if I am not willing to try new things and branch out than I am not willing to do them the best service that I am able. I think that spiritual growth is something that I struggle with and it is important to have spiritual growth beacuse I know my clients are going to die, and most of them sooler rather than later, they are all over 65 years old and have mulit medical issues, thus part of the reason they are living in a community like where I work. All of them have helped me to develop a little more of my spiritual growth and I am looking forward to the next steps in my journey.
Best Wishes~
Hi Momma Long,
ReplyDeleteI like how you incorporate the exercises along with the treadmill. It does appear that you are being an eyewitness to your mind by stopping the other thoughts and allowing you to focus on a friend instead.
What did your inner wisdom release with handling the difficult decision? Did you follow your intuition?
Improving your social networking with the elders, any wisdom stick out in your mind they have passed along?
Keep up the good work in progressing to a deeper psychospiritual development. I believe that I am going to reread this book, many more times, and I have already started the book on Aware, Awake, & Alive by Dacher.

Hey Momma Long,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog.
I have also struggled with this week's practice. So far, I have been able to envision an imaginary healer, but that is about all. As I have stated to others, I have never experienced a deep meditative state, so I think this one is going to require a lot of practice!
On another note, I love what you wrote about your sense of obligation toward your clients. I can tell they are very important to you. You are right in your thoughts; if we, as professionals, are going to ask our clients to try, then we must be willing to try as well. We cannot expect anything from our clients that we do not expect from ourselves.
Happy blogging!

I am with you about getting away from all things a reading a book away form school and the rest of the world. I try and do that between terms just to give me the sense of peace and satisfaction. I to had a hard time with this weeks lesson, two things I have a hard time clearing my mind and putting it some where else and then I have a hard time finding a quiet moment to my self without any interruptions. I do one thing though that this is one area of my life I will continue to work on after I get out of school. I want to learn more and be able to share with others of how to meditate and relax. I so want to help people improve their health and I do believe that this is one was that it can be done.
ReplyDeleteI also like you feel a huge commitment to what I do and feel that I have to live up to what I am trying to get any one else to do. If I don't try to live by what I teach I don't think that they will listen as well and try to achieve their own goal. I know meditation is the one that I have to work on so I can be able to help those that I am teaching how to improve their health on their own.
Great post and you just keep doing as you are doing and all things will come together if we have the desire to improve in any area in our life.
Peace be with you
God Bless
Jackie
Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteExercise is a powerful tool for our health. Running helped you to relax and gain an opportunity to seek wisdom. I use walking and meditation to achieve relaxation. As I walk and think on God I connect with my inner man who is connected with God and fom this connection I gain wisdom for life's circmstances.
I am an avid reader. I also like to run. However, sometimes it is very difficult for me to incorporate those two things into my schedule. I have been so busy lately, I haven't had a chance to breathe...and during stressful moments, I wish that I could just run. Or read a book. I'm impressed that you just did it instead of wishing that you could. You did it for yourself and your sanity. Thanks for your post.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's good that you feel that you can get rid of your distractions and troubles while running. It's a stress reliever and you feel amazing afterwards. I used to do this same thing, however, I can't do it much anymore with my bad knees. I say, if it works for you, then that's good enough! :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't have anyone special I wanted to use as my guide;so, I imagined an older man with grayish/whitish gotee with a little more hair than usual for the gotee look in a white silk flowing outfit. I was also on the edge of the ocean as well while I was with him. I have difficulties too because of noise and distractions. I never have a quite moment in my life! I agree that we have to be in-tuned with ourselves to be able to help clients.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie
ReplyDeleteI would say you are successful, just trying is awesome, even if you try and have to keep trying at least you know where you want to go or where you want to be. So many think about exercising, meditating, or just taking a stress break but they don't make the attempt. I keep doing the things that do work for me and I keep trying new things because it can only get better.

Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteI can relate with you on the exercises. I sometimes have a hard time getting through them because I am so tired. However, I have taken what I have learned and apply that to my day. For me, simply just doing deep breathing exercises has proven to be very beneficial and a great mood booster. I think its all about finding what works for you and sticking with it,you know yourself the best. Good luck!
